LAHORE: The Punjab Cabinet has approved to fix the support price of sugarcane at Rs 200 per 40kg.
A meeting of the Punjab Cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar in which transportation charges and sugar cane development cess were also approved.
The cabinet approved setting the support price of sugarcane at Rs. 200 per quintal and decided to continue measures for further reduction in sugar prices.
In the cabinet meeting, the Punjab Chief Minister directed to form a ministerial committee to procure more imported sugar while action was also announced against the sugar mills for not making timely payments.
On the other hand, the food department has been allowed to enter into an agreement with Pasco to purchase 63,000 tonnes of imported wheat.
In addition, the Cabinet also approved the implementation of a 3% employment quota for the blind and a further 5 years of age concession. Blind people will be able to get a concession of 15 years in total.
A bill has been passed to set up a Punjab Tourism, Culture and Heritage Authority, while a decision has been taken in principle to lift the ban on leasing of coal mines.
The Cabinet also approved the issuance of notification of Medical Teaching Institute and also approved the application of MTI Act to Khawaja Safdar Medical College, Sialkot, and King Edward Medical College.
