Gilgit: Khalid Khurshid has been elected Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The assembly session was presided over by Speaker Amjad Zaidi. Khalid Khurshid was a candidate from PTI while Amjad Advocate of PPP was the candidate from the opposition.
31 members of the Assembly participated in the election process of the Chief Minister, Khalid Khurshid got the support of 22 and Amjad Advocate got the support of 9 members.
According to sources, PPP’s Amjad Advocate is elected as opposition leader.
It should be noted that Advocate Khalid Khurshid has won from Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly constituency 13 Astor 1 on PTI ticket. Khalid Khurshid belongs to Ratto area of Astor district.
Advocate Khalid Khurshid is the son of Justice (retd) Khurshid, a former Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Justice. Khalid Khurshid joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in 2018.
It may be recalled that Amjad Zaidi belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had recently been elected as the Speaker of Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly and Nazir Ahmed as the Deputy Speaker.
