The second nuclear power plant under construction at Hawks Bay in Karachi has entered the final stages of completion.

According to the spokesperson of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, the nuclear power plant with a capacity of 1,100 megawatts of electricity has started to put nuclear material in the canopy two.

The spokesperson said that the process of fuel loading has started from today in Canopy II plant and regular generation of electricity from the plant will start from April next year.

The spokesman said that before refueling the nuclear power plant, permission was sought from the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority in accordance with the procedure.
Director General Nadeem Zaki Manj, Chairman Atomic Energy Commission Muhammad Naeem, Members Power Atomic Energy Commission and senior officials of China were present on the occasion.

It should be noted that the nuclear power plant is a K-2 pressurized water reactor PWR which is a third-generation nuclear power plant equipped with modern automatic safety systems based on Chinese HPR-1000 technology.

Construction began in August 2015 and will begin regular power generation in April 2021 after all safety and operational testing.

Another K-3 plant of the same type will also start production by the end of 2021.
