Senator Babar Awan, Advisor to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Parliamentary Affairs and eminent legislator, has said that legal action could be taken against those who handed over Aafia Siddiqui and Emil Kansi to the United States.

Speaking at a meeting chaired by Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwala, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed of Jamaat-e-Islami said that Aafia Siddiqui’s family members were not being talked to on the telephone.

Replying to a question by Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, Senator Babar Awan told the House that earlier Dr. Aafia Siddiqui had reservations about filing a mercy petition but now she has signed the mercy petition.

Adviser to the Prime Minister said that now the jail authorities are sending a request for mercy to the President of the United States. If we had the power, we would have brought Aafia Siddiqui to Pakistan within 24 hours.

Babar Awan said that Aafia Siddiqui has access to e-mail, through which Aafia Siddiqui stays in touch with her family and consul.

He said that Dr. Aafia has spoken to our embassy on the telephone several times but I do not know how to talk to the family on the telephone. Senator Babar Awan said that he could ask the Houston embassy to contact Aafia Siddiqui with her family.

Adviser to the Prime Minister said that those who handed over Aafia Siddiqui and Emil Kansi could be taken to court.
Ali Mohammad Khan said that the nation would soon hear good news regarding Aafia Siddiqui and the people now have confidence only in Imran Khan.

It may be recalled that rumors regarding the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, who was imprisoned in the United States, were also active in the last few days, on which the Foreign Office spokesperson had expressed dissatisfaction.
